World Grotto and Marketplace is a truly unique marketplace/ gallery dedicated to offering art from Appalachia to Zimbabwe. In addition to the visual arts, our complex will host classes, seminars, films, private parties, corporate events, art openings, wine and liquor tastings, charitable fund-raisers, masked balls, and live performances of dance, spoken word, music, and world DJs.

World Grotto and Marketplace is located on Historic Market Square, and is comprised of a beautiful ground floor Marketplace/ Gallery, an underground- crystal-cave Performance Grotto and a Moroccan-accented-Holistic Health Center in the newly renovated WesTrent Courtyard Building. Market Square is a beautiful pedestrian plaza, and is the historic, cultural, and entertainment center of East Tennessee, hosting year-round events such as the Celebration of Lights, Christmas in the City, Dogwood Arts Festival , Sundown in the City, the Rossini Opera Festival, Saturday Night on the Town, Shakespeare on the Square, Saturday Farmers Markets, Tennessee Homecoming, Autumn on the Square, First Fridays, and more.
World Grotto (300 capacity) is an underground world DJ and live entertainment venue, and is also available for private bookings, seminars and classes.
World Grotto and Marketplace is also affiliated with three specialty retail shops called Earth to Old City (three locations in Downtown Knoxville, Farragut, and Gatlinburg/ est. 1992), and a live music venue called Preservation Pub (150 capacity, est. 2002 on Historic Market Square in Downtown Knoxville, Tennessee).
Earth to Old City is a specialty retailer whose mission is “to seek the unique.”
Preservation Pub is a very popular local hang-out and live-music venue, hosting live music seven nights per week. For booking inquiries, contact scott@preservationpub.com.
World Grotto is a bit bigger (300 occupancy), and is primarily open Fri-Sat nights for live entertainment. Purchasing tickets for events in World Grotto allow the customer to enter Preservation Pub on the same night at no charge (with their ticket stub).
In World Grotto, we’ve created a unique, petite world arts and performance center. We’ve built a Moroccan-accented underground crystal cave by sculpting domed doorways, draping colorful fabrics, and hanging beaded lanterns; as well as imbedding 8,000 lbs of crystals and semi-precious stones into its walls, fountains and glowing geode bar. Our staff is attired in world culture wardrobes of their choice (incidentally, our staff includes fortune tellers, magicians, dancers, drummers, chiropractors and massage therapists, in addition to the usual nightclub personnel). If that isn’t unique enough, World Grotto and Marketplace encompasses retail sales, gallery displays, and health practitioners in addition to its live entertainment nightclub.
